Lo scultore ed architetto Pietro Lombardo da Carona, tra il 1469 e il 1474 è chiamato a Thiene da Giovanni Porto, abiatico di Bartolomeo Colleoni, intento ad abbellire il castello (ora palazzo Thiene) secondo il nuovo gusto rinascimentale. La parte superiore delle torri viene ornata con coppie di finestre le cui ghiere sono decorate da Pietro come i balconcini ai lati della quadrifora della casa Roselli in via Tadi a Padova.
Ma la presenza del Lombardo è rivelata dalla splendida ancona marmorea che orna l'altar maggiore della vicina chiesetta di Santa Maria, con la Madonna in trono reggente il Figlio benedicente con ai due lati san Bartolomeo e san Francesco, e nella lunetta superiore il Padre Eterno circonfuso di cherubini; essa mostra chiaramente influssi derivati dalla prolungata frequentazione di Donatello negli anni padovani. Suo è pure il bel portale della adiacente canonica.
Di notevole interesse nel campo dell'arte plastica astratta l'attività svolta dal maestro Mario Pais de Libera che questa città da lungo tempo ospita.
